Artificial Intelligence
There is no doubt that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has changed the way we navigate the internet. As the software and algorithms responsible for AI continues to improve and develop, the fields and uses for this technology continue to expand. From computer science to marketing, AI has expanded to facilitate and create content that we interact with on the web and in the content we follow as consumers. One of the world's largest cooperation's, Google, has also taken part in implementing this technology on their platform. In embedding this developing technology, questions arise about Google's ethical standards. Most notably:
“Are Google’s AI Ethics Principles Just Window Dressing?”
While Google's AI Principles page outlines the goals and responsibilities the company will be abiding by.
Aims to "[drive] creativity, productivity, and innovation across a wide array of fields..."
"Promoting privacy and security, and respecting intellectual property rights"
difficult to achieve. AI uses already existing visuals, graphics, and art created by thousands who post their work on the internet. In using this as material for the basis of AI generated art, it dimishes the work artists put into their craft and is having an immesurable impact on the industry. Artists across the board are losing jobs and wages because companies want to cut down on labor costs to be more 'efficient'.
